I recently moved into a new house and got myself a new computer. Im trying to reinstall vbgore so that I can begin development again, but I'm having trouble configuring the MySQL server instance. I get the error that is explained in the setup page, the one where I should be able to hit retry a few times and it should work, only it isn't. I don't have a firewall so that cant be the issue, and I made sure to give it access through my antivirus software when it prompted me. But for some reason I just can't get the darned thing to work.

Any suggestions?

ps; now that I look a bit closer my error message is actually a bit different.

it says
"Error Nr. 1045
Access denied for user 'root@localhost.' (using password: YES)

Make sure the information is right in the Serverdata > Server.ini

If it isn't change it and make sure you are using the right passwords and usernames.

Well that shouldnt really make a difference at this point, but I checked it anyway and it's all correct. I also made sure that I added tcp port 3306 to my firewall exceptions, and it still isn't working.

Set it up without a password, if you still get that error, ignore it and move on. Then, change the password through SQLyog, in the default MySQL database.

So I got it to work by creating an anonymous account with no password rather than the localhost root account, and it worked great! :] I got SQLyog up and running, the database loaded correctly, and I'm just now about to test the client/server to make sure they're up.

Great success! haha Everything is working perfectly, thank you so much for your help!
So now how do I add a password to the database?

Not fully sure but it might be:

Open SQLyog > Then left click the root@localhost on the left > then click the User management > Edit User > Set New Password > Apply

Exit the program and login to SQLyog again using new pass.

The MySQL password is stored in a database that comes built into MySQL. Look in there.

Edit: The database is called "mysql", the table is "user".

For next time: If it happens again you may have had it setup with an incorrect password. When you uninstall be sure to go delete the mysql folder as even after an uninstall it keeps info for the db access stored there. Deleting the folder is the only way to cleanly uninstall it.
