Hi there

How do I use vbGORE?
Even if there is a tutorial to follow, that would be more than helpful, since it seems that everything else is covered.
I just don't know how to use vbG, such as making a new game, etc.

Help is appreciated, naturally :)

Yes, I can. Fairly well, in my own opinion :) ((Oh, and sorry for the delayed reply))

Then, just start by reading the wiki

http://www.vbgore.com/Main_Page
Getting Started With vbGORE

that would help a lot

Yep threads like these should just be given the wiki link and closed ... not sure how people miss the links on the front page.

Not a fan of closing threads anymore unless they're really bad.

But I might start doing that.

Nah there's no need.

Most people find the forum on google, so they don't even see the front page.

Those wiki links don't really help in terms of actually starting a project.

It has adding your own graphics, using the map editor, and how to publish your game, but I fail to see some article on how to get started.
For example, do I just use the game I downloaded and add to that? Do I just get rid of the things I don't want and make the things I do?

The thing you downloaded is the engine, so in theory all the wiki links ARE how to get started. Since what you'll be doing are just that: adding own graphics, using map editor, and ultimately publishing your game. The engine itself is a structure you work on. It's up to you to figure out what path you want to take first, whether it be constructing graphics for your game, or working on the code internally for features.

Feel free to add me on msn, or just message me on this forum, if you need help with anything. I'm usually active at.

11-12am GMT

8 - 1am GMT

However, perhaps you would benefit most from a conversation with either:

Bakeitsune (ghostofbake)

Spodi

Or perhaps it could be worth downloading Saturn Valley Online and seeing how things are done there. I'm sure any of the creators will be happy to help you out there.

Thats what this forum is intended for, helping new members with the engine. It would be nice to get more people making games here. So then the forums won't just be busy in the off topic section.

infact fuc* it I'll try and explain the memebers to you, since your new. (well the members I know of anyway xD)

Spodi - Programmer and creator of VBGORE

Nex666 - Runs (takes care of, co-owns) the VBGORE engine. ( I think he's a programmer)

Kyori - Forum admin (don't know if he's also a programmer :s)

Bake - Programmer

Darkfrost - Programmer ?? + Internet meme master.

Lawzile - Photoshop artist (wow @ logos ftw)

Hitoki - Pixel artist.

Zoso (still active??) - Pixel artist.

Maybe there should be a sticky with short introductions.... I don't know. Sorry if I missed anyone out, it's pretty late and I can't sleep =[

Thanks Ace for being a good example of how people should respond to these kinds of emails (and for putting my name in :P). :)

l also found the wiki quite difficult to use and barely used it :(. However I'm happy to answer any programming, vb6 related questions.

Howdy folks, I hope yall don't mind, but I'm going to hijack this post,... kinda. I noticed you people actually answering question from the newcommers, so I figured I should jump on the train before it leaves town. :)

I have just recently become interested in programming, with my friend google, I have found eclipse, xtremeworlds, and vbgore.
Started with the easier to figure out ones, only to be disappointed in "sorry you can't do that, it's hard written into the engine," to a large chunk of things I wanted to change, small, minor changes. Some larger changes too, than noticed gore was open source. So as I am new,,, im not EXACTLY stealing the thread, lol.

Could someone please confirm or deny if I could modify the following using vbgore, not asking you to tell me how to do it, simply if it's possible. thanks ^^

-modify velocity of ranged weapons? I intend on changing the bow and arrow for gun and ammo, also fuel and flamethrower. So faster for the former, and slower for the latter.
-incorporate a skill system where the more you use it the stronger it gets [similar to morrowind/oblivion, I hate to say]
-Do whatever you want with how stats/skills/health/levels interact with one another?
-Theirs plenty more, but I think that's enough to win me over, lol, and much less annoying if I stop now.
Thanks in advance.

you can do any of those things with vbgore, aslong as you had sufficient programming knowledge/knew someone who did/are willing to learn.

Vbgore is a game engine, not a game maker. It's a platform to base your game on. Game engines are made to save alot of time in programming a game, because instead of having to implement the features, a map editor, grh maker.... That's allready done for you.

Basically you can do anything you want with vbgore.

If you so wished you could set it up so......

- It's 3D.

- Blue cheese rains from the sky at random intervals..

Ofcourse both of those things arn't personally recommended doing by me. But what the hell.

Hope I helped.

(ps: I have the hangover from hell atm so sorry if I didn't make sense at some parts there)

Hey! I didn't...
I've not seen him answer any programming questions (as I recall)

Perhaps it's because I've not viewed the programming sections for a few months and now I don't dare open it up because everything is orange. And I will be compelled to read every damn topic.
