Man they piss me off, they said they unsuspended it last night and added an extra fee and they actually haven't...

And I never receive emails saying bill payments failed or that I need to pay or anything..man I'm going to change ASAP.

Necro,

Same sort of thing happened to me, they didn't even email anyone when they said they were pulling all the sites down while "upgrading" the servers and suddenly my site went down with a really ugly page saying "undergoing maintenance", they said it would be down for a few hours, but it lasted a couple of days. Didn't really bother me then, but i think it would pose problems in the future.

I can't believe they haven't been sued for things like this. They obviously don't have any big customers, because if they did and a company earns $1,000 an hour through their website, that would be like $48,000 worth of damages. I'm pretty sure webhosts aren't allowed to just suddenly pull down sites like that.

bull like that is the reason i got rid of my dedicated server. all kinds of billing mistakes that they tried making me pay for. fees that came out of no where.
did you ever switch nex or are you still with them?

i bet the provider you have bake is completely covered. might even be something in the TOS fine print saying they can bring it down whenever. there's usually a section saying the max monetary amount they are responsible for is what you were actually charged for hosting. so that $24,000/day company could at most be entitled to 2 days worth of hosting fees.
even then i bet the host could get out of it. they all have the 99% uptime guarantee. take the site down for 2 out of 365 days and it's still been up 99% of the time. the terms are never fair but it's what you agree to when signing up so you pretty much dont have a leg to stand on.

always read that wall of text though to see what parts of their ass aint covered and what rights you have. that's how i got out of a bullshit $300 early cancellation fee and some retarded hoops they wanted me to jump through just to cancel. plus the reactions of asshole customer service people when you stat quoted their own TOS/EULA is priceless.

edit: woops. been a while since ive left offtopic, didnt see the last post was a month ago.

slicehost.com :)

I pay $38 /month for my 512 slice. I love it. I could never go back to letting anyone manage my servers.

They have a nice list of distros to choose from, and the setup and DNS management is simple as pie!

ah, that's a good price! My slice has 20GB space, and also slicehost is part of rackspace, who are well known for great cust. service. I'm sure that has something to do with pricing as well

but, the really neat thing I like about slicehost is that all their distros are completely barebones. That way you can set it up EXACTLY how you want it, and don't need to worry about any pre-configured crap or services.
