We are currently working on a storyline, that is being developed by coolio2000. Basically, we wanted to change the whole idea of having to "pixel" so the idea is to draw out, or "sketch" the tilesets, items, sprites, etc... While this may seem an easy way to get out of pixel art it poses many tasks just as hard, or maybe even harder. Such as drawing out every sprite exactly the same, with just that minor leg sticking out, or slashing... you get the idea.

Currently we still want people to join the Sketchii Forums and help our community get active and grow. Currently there is not much to do on those crappy looking forums, but I would like ideas on category topics and things to post there.

This section consists of updates:
Tiles:

Grass 1:

Water 1:

Water 2:

Water animation:

(real animation will be slower)

Concept Sprite (I still dont know if I want to use this particular style.):

In Progress:
[x]Grass Tiles
[x]Trees
[x]Shrubs and Turfs
[x]Mud Tiles

Alpha release will be launched once the training area is complete. The training area will consist of: Two maybe three maps that teach you the basics of the game. There will be about ten NPCs on the map, and also around five buildings.

The tiles look a bit repetitive and not one smooth body of grass/water

Hmm, Looking at it today, and not at night, I kinda agree with you, it sucks. So does the body... Ima have to redo all of this crap...

Well these are a few more attempts, one at mud, and another grass attempt, the first image is the actaull image I am splitting up to find a good non repeating grass tile, but it proves hard. I dont think I will be using any of these either...

I'm not trying to knock you or anything but the tiles still look like individual tiles that don't fit with each other. It's like completing a puzzle with pieces that don't fit.

You can actually see the "grid" and how each individual tile looks:

you dont need to make just one tile, and it also doesnt need to be 32x32.
take that one big grass image you have, and instead of trying to find the perfect tile in it, grab 4 or 5, then alternate them through out the map.

^ Me too, the idea you got right now reminds me of ChalkZone and less than anything like a sketch.

Hmm.. the problem with making a whole map is that it is hard to render, and it is also hard to map out as well, for example searching for the correct tile, it would be like a puzzle. I am going to give my technique a few more attempts see if it works otherwise I will make a map, see how it turns out

[EDIT] forums have changed from SMF to phbb3... not like anyone joined anyway =(

Ok, I think that drawing whole map would be much better as well. It's not like you have to search for right tile but you just start placing down tiles from left top corner to bottom right corner if you know what I mean.
