Yeah, I have to say, I've never heard of such a huge pipe being just lent out for free. Something like that has got to easily be costing you $1000+ a month.

nah, i told him theirs not going to be too much traffic and disk space to take up his hosting server, in which he hosts websites for hundreds of customers. I've known the owner of the hosting and where cool, helped him out in the past in securing his FTP Server from intrustions which could damage his profits.

So ;) im sure he will help out.

now wait their is one thing i got to know, i have never made a game with VbGORE that has taken 1000's of MySQL connections to a server , lets just say the community project gets popular and alot of accounts and gametime is going through, how much expected disk space is going to be taken... My host doesnt want any more than 500-600 MB being taken up. I dont think the MySQL Would get that big, but i need to know or else ill have to pay.

And i think i can do the hosting for 6-12 months, as long as i manage the Sql server and delete unnecesary items. meaning, we should write code that removes an account if no activity has been present for more than 30 days, that away , i could be VbGORE's dedicated host.

let me know what you think,

Well what you described is completely different than what you said. :P The way you described it sounded like he had a dedicated pipe to share, not one that he uses for absolutely everything combined. Thats like a web hosting company saying,

"We have 1000 MB/sec connection just for you (and 30,000 other members to share)!!!"

hes got other servers we can run off of, but i dont want to bog down his network. We get one dedicated pipe, and the service provided is going to be MySQL.

im still getting a confirmation, he needs to know how much disk space is going to be taken up, and how much traffic is going to accumulate with this project.

A possible increment and time using the project routine , to send the statistics of usage to the server would be nice, that way i can present him with real time data.

I think hes in support of this, as he wants to present his hosting services to this community for indie game companies / studios, so yeah as far as i know its a go.

If not, we can think of something else...

I think I'm not the only one who wouldn't trust you/anyone you're associated with to host a project. ;)

background on my host (* friend *) here:

his dad is an federal agent, which means he doesnt do anything illegal.

if you dont want the hosting , just let me know. ill tell him to cancel it, and you guys can go pay money to get hosting, or find a host who doesnt have a dedicated up time. Its fine with me nex666 ;)

if you want to do it go ahead, but honestly there is not going to be a need for one for a very long time.
personally i wouldnt trust getting one through you either but that's not my decision.
umm what host doesnt offer a dedicated uptime guarantee? besides, when this thing s ready to actually need a host, anyone willing to run it from home would be more than enough, if it did get larger there's choices of either a game server host, a dedicated host, or a vps, all of which can be found for very reasonable prices, and that's assuming there isnt someone with their own server that would just throw it up on there.
like i said, if you want to set it up go ahead, but the story you've giving on it doesnt sound the most reliable to me

You know can't really take his dad being federal to heart. Usually federal agents do more illegal things than an average joe.

I have a dedicated server, but it's nowhere near a stage where it needs it :P
Athlon 6000+ X2, 2gb ram, SataII hard drive etc, it's on whatever the fastest normal adsl you can get is. Located in Auckland, NZ.

No remote admin though, I can't securely provide that :P
Could be ftp access and I have access to the pc 5 days a week all day long so that should be no problems.

WOW YOUR DEDICATED SERVER IS IN AUCKLAND! I live in Auckland so the server probably wont lag much for me. Maybe i could monitor and control the server from my home securely.
