I am relatively new to vbgore, though i have hung around,

and just like me, everyone is so ADD and busy that not a single real project has been finished, even when that one guy offered free hosting!

weird, is it bcause of the constant releases?

i am working diligently on my huge site or i would work on MY vbgore game as well

mebe spodii should make a public open source GAME, as well as an engine, you know an official VBGore Online

No one has finished a game because no one has had enough time. Theres quite a few promising games that have come quite far, though. Just give it time. No one can create a decent online game in just a few months, especially in just their free time. I doubt the releases slow people down much since you can just use the upgrade guide.

As for me making an open source game, that'd be way too much work for me to do. I'm not about to spend 3 months making a small game just so people can see what can be done with vbGORE.

all very valid points.

Using VBgore is a very large undertaking indeed,

Though it would be nice if someone's game had a dedicated server that a noob could play on.

If the community made a sample game, would your hosting company, or you, spodi, host it?

I'd be willing to host a server of a simple, "completed" game.

Also, I'd be willing to buy a completed game. :D

My old computer (good CPU, crappy GPU) is an always-on dedicated media and torrenting machine, but I think I can cut off my infinite stream of downloading / uploading to run a game server, if you do want to make a decent game. Though, I don't think it'd be a whole lot of fun to take on that task. ;)

it could be a community thing, like a forum on the vbgore forum for "The community game" and everyone could throw it around and make community releases,

which you could host. i may start it when i get some time tho >_>

Well if you guys want to do a community game, its going to take at least one dedicated person who is going to do most all the work. Trust me, it always turns out like that. The biggest reason community projects fail is that they rely too much on the community. It is also going to have to take a lot of organization and planning.

I say we pick a project and everyone who wants to help out with it, does so. I'd be willing to make Swords and Steam community. I'm honestly making a game for 2 reasons:
1) to finally have something to show off my talents.
2) to make a game worth playing.

If someone has a good project and a strong enough leader I'd be willing to help them out.

i'd be willing to do some programming for a community project. if there is someone willing to take charge and keep it organized i might work out, and if it gets to be to much of a hassle we all just bail. as long as it's kept simple i don't see too many problems. use nex's community graphics, make more maps/items/quests and try not to make any major modifications so it will show off what vbgore can already do out of the box. i'd also be willing to set up a site with a dev forum and some sort of cvs repo for the code and what not.

If no one else wants to take lead I'll be willing to throw my name in the hat. Give me until this weekend and I'll organize a To-Do list and get everything organized. I'll also upload the Source for Swords and Steam so everyone can see what I've managed to do. Now as for major modifications, I have made a few... Account system and Character Select for example... But I'll write a wiki for it and see if anyone is interested then.

If you want, I can add a section for the project.

First step, I assume, is to get a category everyone likes. I would normally say, "First person to say Medieval Fantasy is banned", but that would definitely be the fastest from all the resources there are for it (namely graphics).

I'm liking Steampunk or Gas Lamp Fantasy :D
We can use a lot of the Medieval Fantasy graphics. Only a few extra will need to be added (gears, machines, etc.) Plus there really hasn't been a game to really define or use the genre. Plus it allows us to bridge into both technology and fantasy. There very well could be chemical experiments in a Steampunk setting as much as there could be sword wielding dragon slayers. Plus Mechanical dragons would be something cool to slay.
