Wouldn't it be fun to build in an mp3 player? You could have whatever background music you wanted going on. And with the particle engine I bet we could have some awsome avs going on :) Any takers? I might be just bored enough to do it if there( http://englishplus.com/grammar/00000256.htm ) is alot of intrest 8) What does everyone think? Wouldn't do it as a built in but might be a good way to make the game diffrent from the standard....

Heres a link to my guide:

Yeah. That would be cool. A lot of people I know mute the game's music and listen to their own anyway, so this could please quite a few people. It wouldn't need a lot of features, just the basics like mp3/wav/ogg/wma support, title/artist display, volume control, multimedia key support and playlist file loading. Internet radio/podcast support would be more than welcome too (Both for standard internet radio, as well as perhaps as perhaps in-game news and announcements played through it between songs... So many possibilities for that).

So I say go for it :)

That would be pretty cool! What may be more useful is to be able to send commands to the music player (Winamp, iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc) they are using, that way the player wouldn't have to do much work to use it and they can keep their equalizers how they want them.

Interested to see what you come up with, Chase! :D

To send commands to it, all you really need are those nifty multimedia keys. If you don't have those, Winamp allows you to create other shortcut keys in the preferences. Otherwise, I don't really know how to do it. When I played Jedi Outcast, somebody in my clan had written an application to do operate Winamp from the game's console, but I haven't seen him in ages to ask him how he interfaced with the programs. All I know is that he used VB and that it worked really well (He could even make it tell you the title of the song and the volume level).

Awesome, that would actually be really cool to be able to print the name of the song in the chat buffer when it changes! :D

Yep, that's what happened. I'll try to find out what I can about talking to WinAmp in VB, and if I find something I'll post it :)

Wow. That was easy enough :)
List of the commands and stuff.
An example of how to interface with Winamp.

The example doesn't work perfectly. The track title, time, and song position don't want to work, but the rest works fine. It even auto-starts Winamp for you :)

Ohh, that would be nice. I can create the controls for winamp really easy. Perhaps that is the best way to do it rather then start from scratch. :) I'm going to get right on it
