Well, let's get started.

I got into making video games with a program called Reality Factory. It was fun ,but my projects always went wrong in some way. It was either my lacking 3D modeling skills, limitations of the engine, or that my stories just weren't enough to make me want to play the game that I was making. I'm not giving up my reality factory project ,but I may spend less time on the project and more time on the story. I have a real good template now, it only needs details.

Anyway, I've always wanted to make a multiplayer game ,and this looks like the program that could help me. My list of mmorpg ideas could go on forever. I'd like to put at least one of them to work. This is why I'm considering moving to this engine. What I've read sounds promising ,but I have a few questions before I get too attached to my mmorpg idea.

How hard is it to make a decent game? What is the learning curve for scripting is basically what I'm concerned about A tutorial might be nice too!

Do I need any other programs besides this to make a game?

What I'm most concerned about is keeping a server running. Do I need a supercomputer to be able to allow more than 30 people to play my game?

Do you recommend this program?

That's just about all of my questions for now. So, I'll be ending this post in just a minute. Thanks for your time!

Well vbGORE is great for you, yes making a game is hard takes about 3 years and mostly it takes loads of your time. You need to buy a server to run 24/7 even through vbGORE use low bandwidth still I recommand you buy a professional server plugged in a (university, company, cooperate) datacenter.

Anyways welcome to vbGORE, hope you enjoy it here.

P.S. You just need graphics for this not 3Ds since it's a 2D engine.

1. The learning curve could be quite a bit, you're editing the engine code directly in Visual Basic 6, but visual basic isn't the hardest to code in :)
2. Hmm, depends. You'll probably need an image editor just to put graphics together.
3. Well, vbGORE is optimized to use as little memory as possible so I'm sure you don't need a supercomputer. You do need a pretty good connection for a few players though (better than dialup anyways! :))
4. I certainly recommend it, I think it looks nice and works really well. All the basic features are there to make a great game :)

Not a problem! :)

Welcome. With over 30 you may want to take there advice. Although I have no experience there as the only work I ever do has been used privately.

Thank you for all of your help. This looks exactly like what I've been looking for. Anyway,

I'm glad that I can finally put my 2D skills to work! My pixel art has been getting better every day. I'm quite proud of it. The 3 year commitment sounds ok too. I'm a very patient person, and lately, I've had a lot of time on my hands and want to do something constructive. Also, let's say my dream comes true and I somehow manage to create an amazing, mindblowing game and decide to buy a professional server, about how much would that cost? (I'm not really concerned, I've just always been curious)

Now, onto another question (I should be done soon). Where would I go to learn about this Visual Basic 6? Online sources, books, posts on the forum, etc. Anything would be helpful!

Thank's again for taking the time to help a new guy out! I really appreciate it.

I think you answered your own question. There is vb6 tutorials online and some pretty good books on it. The visual basic questions part of the forum is great for help thanks to spodi. There is also visual basic video tutorials that come when you donate to vbGORE.
