IN my online game, we have had thsi concept, which was working though our old BETA, that we should sell land, for a small fee, in the game. Now, with vbGORE however, we are not sure how thsi could work....although, I have two ideas already

1. We give them a MapEditor, and they create the map themselves, to the requirements we give them. Once they do that, they give it back to us, and we edit the maps, to make sure there all cool, and put them BACK into the game...sounds good, but a few security problems may arise.....

2. We edit the maps for them....well, its sounds safe, but the players might be a little bit unhappy...

any ideas, or do ya think we could use the above ideas I've got.

Tay

I was thinking of doing the same for my game, like allowing clans to build their own clan hall maps. The first one would work fine. What you will want to do, though, is create a tool that will load the map and search for invalid values. For example, if NPCs are placed that you don't want, if they used tiles you don't want them to use, have objects on the map, exits (so they can warp to wherever they want), etc. It would be pretty easy to make.

Then you can just run the map through it before you put it in the game to make sure it is valid. Bam, done.

Sweet. So, all I'd need to do now, is make that tool..which might take a while, in my case :(...and then, somehow make it, so they can't create MASSIVE guild maps

NexusTK, released shortly after Ultima Online in the United States (In Korea it was released before UO), featured something like this. They gave the map editor to heads of clans and allowed them to make a map. Nexon would review the map to make sure all was well before implementing it. There weren't any problems that I know of, and it did save the company a bunch of time making maps for clans and then revising them if the clans didn't like them.

So has there been a tool made yet on this? That has been an idea for my game but as I am a beginner programmer, building the tool might be difficult.

Theres no in-game map editor or a tool to assist in users making maps besides the default map editor, and probably wont ever be (at least from me).

The only problem I see with this, is the Grh Values...maybe you'd store them in a MySQL db of some other location, so that the players don't get access to the Grh Values...most won't use them for there own game, I'm sure...but still, ya neva know ;)

Well the GRH's shouldn't matter unless you want to allow them to upload their own graphics. The way I was thinking of doing it is all in game, letting them choose through many different templates and number of floors, type of furniture etc. All of which having different costs.

I don't see why you would need to give them the GrhRaw.txt, or why giving them it would be a problem. People shouldn't be putting in their own graphics since it'd end up causing chaos to any ordering you have.

I'm just saying...with the GrhRaw.txt, players could just start to create there own online game, based on mine....or, give them to other people, who would in turn make copy's of my game, ect.

Uhm, not really, unless you leave all your graphics unencrypted and the only thing unique about your game is the graphics.

Why can't we just let them send their own simple maps? (yeah, the one with boxes and words)
Then we edit the maps to fit their description and use any material we think suitable, unless stated. the designs of the buildings can be chosen or made random. or if they care to draw it at all.
