What exactly makes you so special that you have the right to get all the software you want for free, while the rest of us work our asses off so we can buy our entertainment?

(Note: This very short statement is not aimed at anyone on the forum in particular.)

You know what, what makes you so special we all have to do what you do?

But anyway I'll just give you the most popular answer nowadays...."It's a Recession!!!" :spin:

I'm not sure whether that was sarcasm, but in the case that it wasn't, it's not a matter of doing what "I" do so much as following the law. (Assuming you don't live in Sweden.) What gives you the special right to break the law and get whatever you want, software-wise? (Again, hypothetical "you", I'm not insulting anyone specifically.)

I pirate what I would never buy in the first place. Last game I purchased (other than TF2, which I'd have to buy anyways to play online) was Diablo II, and before that was about a year earlier when I bought a "1000 games in 1" CD from a $5 bin. I don't pay for entertainment. I am that cheap. If piracy was not an option, I'd just be using crappier entertainment, crappier software, etc. I feel my piracy harms nobody (as I know for a fact I wouldn't buy it anyways), but improves my life.

Only thing I pirated that I may have bought was Fallout 3. That is the only thing I question whether or not I would have actually bought. I don't think I would have, but I may have...

That doesn't mean pirating is fine, but piracy is going nowhere... it is just something you have to deal with.

I have no special right but I think it's silly to worry about things that don't affect you or maybe care about something with more substance that's killing people and destroying the world.

Most of the shit I download are hardly on my computer after a couple months. Don't get me wrong I do buy software when I find it necessary, I've probably spent $200 on software already this year.

Just because something is against the law, doesn't mean it's wrong.

And I'm going to go with what Hitoki and Spodi have said; I pirate the things that aren't worth the money companies are charging for them, I buy the things that are worth the money.

When people are passionate about something because it's of great quality and really works well for them..they'll buy it.

Make more products/games/movies like this instead of being safe and just doing the same shit over and over again with better graphics or whatever..

I buy things I think are worth my money and it shows the developers wanted to create something wonderful.

Things I bought:
1. Demons Souls
2. Assassins Creed 2

Things I didn't:
1. Photoshop
2. Borderlands (I may have bought this but the game was poor at best. Gameplay was good, story was horrid.)

Borderlands is fun especially with people, I actually paid $60 for that and I rarely ever buy shooters.

If they would have implemented the arenas in better I would have bought it sadly they are part of co-op and no one ever does them. It should be a separate part of the game.

I have mixed feelings about software piracy, yes businesses are losing money (mostly because they are inflexible), but im pretty sure all the bands that complain about it have used torrents/rapidshare some time in their lives to download software. I'm also pretty sure many software developers have downloaded other software, yet still complain when people pirate theirs.

There has been proven ways of mitigating piracy of your software for years by using preventative techniques (p2p anyone?), most of all destroying sites that facilitate piracy ain't going to do anything anyway, just look at piratebay, so all businesses will eventually just have to build a bridge and get over it.

my experience with piracy begins early.
and tbh, EVERYONE faces this:

School says: make a powerpoint

well, this f..... school isnt paying my office is it?
and powerpoints we made in openoffice were broken in their wierd old office version.

CONGRATULATIONS, an entire schoolclass forced to pirate software.

im so glad our school finally offered us WIndows 7 over MSDNAA.
I was sick of using a pirated windows for a long time,
because microsoft locked my legitly bought and NEVER burned/key traded/etc
copy of windows XP pro.

I wont pay for the same car twice!

I dont pirate stuff I "like".
if i were to pirate anything, it would be something i "need".

Windows 7, Visual Studio Express, Open Office, Tux Guitar (instead of 60 euro guitar pro!)

My PC is fully legal since a while back...
i basically told my school im fed up with it and now im only running legit software.

however, I myself as a game dev and as a musician,
know people will pirate whatever i give them.

for one, many people dont have the money to buy it if they wanted to.
its not a loss to let them have it now, is it?
(students who require adobe fireworks and photoshop for files a teacher gives you! best example!)

if a bands album is pirated massively,
bring an album that people WANT to buy (some extras or so one cannot upload into a file)
get your shows good enough so people visit them again and again.
make people want to pay for your work.

I myself donated to more software, than i have "bought" it.

well i now hate adobe and will pirate all of their software.

I bought an academic version of dreamweaver (for my dad), and then when i got home i had to go through a million step process just to get my key. So i fill in as much required details that somebody i don't know could rob my house, then at the end it tells me that they have to review my personal details (cool so people get to look at it now) before sending me an email in 1 - 3 days.

Well its been a week and a half and i still haven't got that key, so basically they just robbed my money.
