So we had to read Cold Mountain over summer and do a creative art project on it.
This is what I painted, then I added some text in a caption on the left panel. This is the text:
“After a time though, Inman found that he had left the book and was simply forming the topography of home in his head. Cold Mountain, all its ridges and coves and watercourses. Pigeon River, Little East Fork, Sorrell Cove, Deep Gap, Fire Scald Ridge” (Frazier 16).
This painting depicts Cold Mountain with “all its ridges, coves, and watercourses” that Inman sees when picturing his home. The sun represents the hope that lies within Cold Mountain, the hope for a better life, with Ada. The stars depict the direction that Inman has decided to head towards – West – which is further represented by the setting sun.
What do you guys think?
Anyone read the book?
