I already left this as a comment in the poll, but I guess you might not notice it. Anyway, when I tried starting vbGORE, the client starts, then it logs in. From there the screen goes black for about a minute, before everything appears. I think it could use some optimizations.

A minute? Wow, that definately doesn't seem normal... have you altered the files at all? Also, what is your system specs? On a 600mhz computer with a 16mb graphics card, it takes me less then 2 seconds to go from contacting the server to displaying the screen while in the IDE (not compiled).

Problems that could be causing this from what I see are:
-Altered code
-Altered files/added files
-Bad server/client connection (shouldn't happen through Localhost)

If it isn't one of those... hard to say what could be causing it. Definately sounds like a problem, though. :?

Actually, I guess it wasn't a minute, but it was definitely more than 20 seconds. As far as I know I didn't alter the code(I haven't even seen the code yet) or files, and the computer is something like 2-3 Ghz. Then again, the computer might have just been acting up because it wants to make things miserable for me.

Thank you for the feedback RyanM. If this continues to keep acting up, I will look more into it. It definately shouldn't be your computer's hardware from the sounds of it though... that thing is way better then mine.

Will this run on a computer with 56 mb of ram?

Sure will! Along with speed optimizations, there are also a lot of memory-usage optimizations. The client takes around 13mb RAM and the server takes about 6mb RAM. Results will vary with how much there information there is, though, but compaired to other VB ORPG engines which can take up to 100+mb of RAM, this isn't too bad for a 3D engine 8) . For the client, as there are more different graphics on the screen, RAM will increase. For the server, RAM increases when there is more players, NPCs, maps and objects.

Has anyone else had problems on this loading time? In a few cases it has taken me a little bit (5+ seconds) but those just seem to be from doing stuff in the background.

no problem here. Perhaps his PC doesnt have good drivers and isnt using hardware rendering.

I dont think that'd slow down the loading time, but you sure would be lucky if you could get 1/2 a FPS without hardware rendering.

It was probably just because of stuff going on in the background - not too worried about it unless I hear more reports on this happening.
