Heeeeey everyone,

I am here to announce that I am working on a new project using VBGore called "Forgotten Destiny"

It has been a 4 year ongoing project of making graphics, and coding. Originally coded using ORE 50, then the project got lost on my hard drive, and after awhile.. I stumbled upon VBGore, checked out the code, and think it is pretty SWEET!!!

Over the past few months, I've re-written TONS of code, and dumped almost ALL of the VBGore images with my own images.

This has been quite a huge project (because i've been working on it on my own) but it seems to be turning out really good!

I've been doing testing privately with friends, and it runs like a charm :)

The story and all technical data has been worked out and documented, but I will let you guys know about that later..

anyways.. I wanted to reach to everyone, and see if I can't get any pixel graphic artist out there to help me with the game!!

I am in dire need of some really cool monsters. The basis around the monsters in the game, is that they are weird mutated creatures.. so for instance, Blobs, or giant bugs, zombies, stuff like that..

If I am able to get some help I would expect a public release of the game in about 6 months.. if not.. well, who knows.. haha

buttttt, I wanted to leave everyone with a screenshot that I took just a few nights ago testing with some friends :)

Hope you like IT!!!

Story

Panibia, a continent mainly visited by outsiders in search of exotic vacation spots, falls under the shadow of civil war. The last that was heard from Panibia was that the northern-half of the continent was hoarding resources and wars have been breaking out all over. People stopped traveling to Panibia, and eventually it was as though the continent had sunk into the ocean. Just as any remembrance of this continent is fading away, news gets out that, nuclear attacks have been spotted in several spots across the continent. This was the last anyone heard anything about Panibia.

Present day, a young group of rescue members from the organization, Shiftrope Rescue, sail to Panibia, set out to discover the past of the continent and aid anyone in need. Upon reaching the shores of Panibia the young adventurers discover that the continent is infested with mutated beings that must have been a result of the nuclear aftermath. In an attempt to cover more ground, the rescuers go their separate ways in search of civilization, and answers to why these creatures exist, and what happened that seemed to wipe the continent of any survivors. Now you, as a fellow rescuer, must journey the continent in search of the past, while trying to survive in the vast jungle of creatures.

Gameplay
Walking... (WASD) Attacking.. (mouse click) these are the basics, but you can cast spells, form parties, shop, do quests (pertaining to recovering artifacts), find pets, and other things to come..

Graphics
The general theme of the game has gone through multiple transistions (4 I believe) .. at first it was looking more along the lines of Diablo 2.. then it changed to a more 3d approach.. then it turned into something along the lines of Secret of Mana.. and with some other transistions inbetween, I have finally decided on this one. My main reasoning for doing it this way, is the ease of creating graphics, and also.. my undying love for pixel art.
The style seems to me more of a cartoonish, almost japanese style animation.. while the GUI is a sleek design. The animation is very pixelated but I think gives the game a very unique and cute style that many people will enjoy. There will be LOADS of items that will change the apperance of the character. Such as hats, clothes, etc. that I think will get many people wanting to customize their character and make it unique. Almost the feel of an old classic that you can't put down.

Classes, blah blah blah...
There are 2 possible characters:
Boy / Girl.. with a possible 3rd one in the future.

You start out as just a standard player, and once you reach level 10, you can complete a task to become a CLASS.

Soldier
-Isn’t concerned much with skills or learning magic. Focuses on strength, and the big weapons. Mostly deals with swords, axes, hammers, etc. Mainly uses brute strength to fight through continent.
    - Weapons of choice: Sword, Axe, Pole-arm, Hammer
    - Skills: Bash, Multi-Bash, Make Food, Increase Strength, Roar

Beast Master
-Lost and alone, the Beast Master was left with no choice but to learn the ways of the inhabitants, and now is able to summon them at will to help.
-Weapons of choice: Dagger, Boomerang, Bow & Arrow
-Skills: Increase Summoning Limit, Summon *animal*, etc.

Scientist
-Having a vast background with chemistry, the Scientist discovered many interesting new elements on the continent, and was able to develop ways to incorporate them into fending off foes.
-Weapons of choice: Small Pole-arms, Wand
-Skills: MP Steal, Fire, Ice, Poison, Earth, etc.

Medic
-Originally embarked on the journey to heal those in need, the Medic does just that!
-Weapons of choice: Hammer, Dagger, Wand
-Skills: Single Heal, Group Heal, Revive, Cure Poison, Teleport

Skills are subject to change. This is no the official list!!!

Things to do

Collect pieces of history in the depths of the continent in order to decipher what happen 100 years ago! These can be anything including: newspapers, books, pictures, etc.

Help out survivors by running errands for them, or even rescuing from certain death! Maybe you will be rewarded!

Work together with fellow missionaries to discover more! Remember, strength comes in numbers.

Spar with friends or even a complete stranger in the Arena! What else would people do in their free-time right?

Other

When you gain a new level, you get a certain number of points to distibute to your stats, but as you gain higher levels, you get more points.. but it will cost more points to add to certain stats.. for example: you become level 23, and get 10 points.. but it costs 6 points to add a single point to STR.

You can learn spells by completing certain quests. And by using these spells you get experience and your spells can up in levels. When you get a certain amount of total spell experience you have the option of learning new spells, along with spells learned in quests.

I'm sure there is more stuff I'm leaving out.. and in fact this whole process is still a long way in the works which will require lots of testing!

If you don't have faith in the cartoonish style.. give it a try! The name of the game and general story seem very serious.. but the fun gameplay and oodles of cute and cuddly stuff certainly give this theme a purpose..

and if you don't appreciate pixel art.. GO PLAY GAMMA BROS. NOW!!!!!

Too cartoony? I think they look great. Is that GUI fully functional? If so, good job - probably the most altered GUI I have seen for quite a while! Looking forward to seeing more. :)

yeah, the GUI is fully functional!

The coolest part of the GUI (i think ) is that the spells window scrolls through your spells (and if you click it, you cast it!)

AND you can scroll through 5-pages of items, instead of having a HUGE window for items. :)

Nice GUI. It seems the HP/MP bar on your character info GUI doesnt work. How did you replace the hp/mp bar under your char to make it look so good.

I haven't made HP/SP bars for the main GUI window yet.. but they will be coming!!

As for under the character, in the Char_Render sub, there is a command that renders the 2 bars as a certain color. All you need to is render them as a different color. It can render up to 4 different colors based on the corners of the rectangle (i believe) .. so All you have to do is render 2 corners red for example, and the other 2 corners orange.. adn then you got a cool looking HP bar!! And you could even go more in-depth to say like..

if HP < 10%
render RED
end if

but yeah!!!!!

im trying to get a pixel artist for monsters from pixeljoint.com.. but it seems hopeless... :(

Woah! This is nice!

If I was you, I would change the white gui text to black. It's kinda hard to read.

Website looks great!

I would change a few things though. Maybe a faint paper texture where its pure white, and give the book a bit of depth or something.

Or maybe not, it looks nice how it is. ^^ Keep the the good work, and I want to see a alpha/beta/FP soon! :P
