I have a problem with directx now and am looking for help. I hadn't used my laptop for a few weeks and before that it worked fine. Then when I came back I get an error when I try to initialize directx.
Quote:
RTE '-2147024770 (8007007e)'

Automation Error
The specified module could not be found.

Now I am used to getting automation errors, but the second part is what I am stuck at. When I go to debug it points at the line "Set dx8 = new directx8". And I am sure I have directx8vb dll. Any help?

I don't know much of that, but have you tried reinstalling it?

Gotta register the dlls or ocx thingys (forgot what they are called)

Go to Start -> Run -> regsvr32 "dx8vb.dll"

If you are using DirectX 7 change the 8 to a 7 and so on.

Let me know how it goes :D Good Luck!

I don't think it was anything to do with registering the dlls because it worked perfectly fine after I reinstalled directx9...

Wouldn't that register the dlls? I had that problem you had, when I ran the debug it showed a line of code doing something that used DirectX, I just re-registered the dlls and it worked fine. :D

But what caused this problem? DLL's (i think) can't unregister without any installing on uninstalling.

The DLLs were not registered, which is why when he debuged it highlighted the DirectX code thingy; that was his problem. I had the same thing happen to me; so when he installed DirectX 9, it re-registered the DLL.

but that doesnt explain why it was working fine a few weeks ago and then all of a sudden stopped to work.

yeah something works that way.
simple uninstallation and it can unregister things, maybe some program did it purposefully? Who knows...

It doesn't matter for now, if you do experience it again then you have something to think about
