Everyone who I hear that runs off and I'm not using this engine BTW so I kind of care for ya hehe.

Anyways everyone I hear running off to another engine and such is now scared of mysql. You have in fact scared people thinking SQL is bad.

We try to please everyone as a developer it gets hard.

Please consider packaging your game with sqlite. If you don't know what it is then please google it. Anyways its perfect for your engine and people who wants to go further and expand they can use mysql. This makes it so people extract run server and it works. Sort of like plug and play. Rather doing the whole installing mysql then installing db and you know.

Anyways consider it and less people will leave and also help stop bring fear into other projects.

Thanks,
Kane Hart

How would vbGORE make people "scared" of MySQL? MySQL may require a little bit more on the setup since you have to install the server, but it is far easier to use than SQLite since there are much more clients out there for MySQL (making it easier to edit), and SQLite wouldn't work with vbGORE's multiple server support or allow you to display the game data on a remote web site.

If something as simple as MySQL is scaring people away, then I doubt they'd be able to handle the rest of the work involved in making an online game.

You have a point there. I guess there is a lot of young kids playing with the RPG makers these days. I just like everyone to be happy lol. Then someone else makes another RPG maker but they end up making more simple to satisfy there needs and then they get screwed :P

Honestly, people who can't be bothered to spend 5 mins setting up mysql, and end up scared of it (????), probably shouldn't be using it anyway.

I understand where he is coming from. It is a reasonable suggestion, there just isn't any reasonable alternative. I, too, remember being a bit intimidated by MySQL at first since I had absolutely no background in databases.

Though compared to the complexity of a games engine (a networked one at that) it's practically nothing.

Yeah, this was basically my point.

If they're going to give up at setting up mySQL (Especially when there's a detailed step by step guide...) they'll probably wont get too far with vbGORE either.

I know, if you can't handle the MySQL part, you can't handle a whole game. But my point was that it just adds to the complexity of the initial set-up. I was just saying that I do understand his point. But like I also said, there is no real alternative (other than maybe another SQL server, which would actually be harder for most people).
