Hi,

New member here.

I'd really like to try setting this program up.

Hope I can get it to work.

Well that not a very high hope! I expect something more like "o hai I go maek gaem and sell it for MILLIONS OF POUNDS"

Then again, at least your goal is realistic. XD

Also, Hi! :D

Well....

I like to set goals that I can expect to obtain. I've been studying visual basic for a whole week now...

The thing is, I currently live in Shanghai, China, so I'm not very confident in my ability to provide a reliable server from my home. The internet really lags in the evening here.

On the other hand, by the time I get it all set up and ready for players, I'll be back in the states. :P

What I've been working with is Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. It says it's version 9.0.30729.1 SP.

This won't work with vbGORE, right?

That makes you better than 75% of the people that join now.

:( No, it won't, unfortunately. However, you can still get a copy of VB6 (whether legally or not. :D )

Read that thread for more help.

Welcome to vbGore! Now go code that game.

EDIT: VB2008 won't be useless, though. Spodi is programming NetGore! *mwahahaha*

Which is written in C#

Although I suppose you could code new things in VB.NET if you wanted :P

Whoops. Meant to write VS2008 won't be usless. xD

Good catch thar.

Though I'm pretty sure you can convert C# to VB.NET, that's the whole thing about managed code, isn't it? Interop between languages?

Yup, you can pretty much do a straight conversion from one to the other without any problems. If you wanted, you could probably convert the entire netgore solution from C# to VB.NET and then only have to fix a couple things. :)

Although I wouldn't recommend it for obvious reasons
